Astrobioligy play the waiting game looking for the ultimate molecular instigation that will mean that carbon based existence has reached an evolution state that makes us interesting to their neurological make up. When this occurs there will be the ultimate golden hand shake from an existence that is not of this world. Thus time is the key or whatever measurement this new type of existence abides too, so the answer is unknown and maybe also the question but carbon based existence must carry on their normal processing till the chemistry set changes, and then, well who knows what in this cradle of life.
